Police Force spokesperson, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, has countered man who criticized police officers for stopping and searching a man who recently returned to Nigeria from Canada
The returnee had recorded police officers who stopped to search him. He felt violated and in the viral video he shared online, expressed his anger and even cussed out the officera for searching him and said the officers will be hearing from his lawyers.
Reacting to the viral video, an X-user stated that in Canada, the police does not randomly stop people to search them.
Responding, Adejobi stated that Nigeria and Canada do not operate the same law and that in Nigeria, officers are allowed by law to carry out stop and search.
It’s worrisome to see @PoliceNG officers in uniform harassing Nigerian diaspora returnees for Xmas celebrations who haven’t violated any law being harassed in public. Why do these officers intend to search him and search his phone? These officers' unprofessional and snarky… pic.twitter.com/t1lgGFdYaZ
