A fire outbreak early on Sunday morning at Dugbe Market in Ibadan, Oyo State, has led to the destruction of goods worth millions of naira. The blaze completely engulfed three shops and caused significant damage to the market area.
The fire, which broke out in the early hours, quickly spread to three out of the thirteen shops in the vicinity before being contained. According to Mr. Yemi Akinyinka, the General Manager of the Oyo State Fire Agency, the agency was immediately alerted to the incident and mobilized a team of fire fighters to the scene.
Upon arrival, fire officials were able to prevent the fire from spreading to other nearby properties. "Three shops were completely destroyed, while thirteen shops and other properties were saved," Akinyinka stated in a report released to the press.
The fire was eventually brought under control, and Akinyinka emphasized the importance of educating the public on fire prevention, particularly during the dry Harmattan season. "We also advised the community on how to manage small fires at their incipient stages," he added.
An investigation into the cause of the fire revealed that it originated from the careless burning of refuse by the occupants of one of the shops. Akinyinka urged the public to avoid indiscriminate burning of refuse, bushes, and undergrowth, as these practices significantly increase the risk of fire outbreaks in communities.
