Chinedu Stanley Asuzu, a Nigerian national and brother of the late Nollywood actor Ernest Asuzu, was tragically murdered by armed assailants in his home in Johannesburg South on December 16, 2024.

The Nigerian Union South Africa (NUSA) confirmed the brutal murder in a statement issued on December 22, condemning the crime and offering support to Asuzu's grieving family. Chinedu, a father of four, was reportedly in the midst of divorce proceedings with his estranged South African wife, Busisiwe Sibanyoni, over ongoing issues related to asset division.

In its statement, NUSA revealed that its President-General, Hon. Smart Nwobi, had attempted to contact Sibanyoni for further clarification, but her responses remained unreturned. Meanwhile, the union's legal team uncovered that a witness to the shooting had provided key details to the investigating officer, and a murder investigation has been launched. NUSA also emphasized its commitment to supporting Asuzu's family during this difficult time.

The murder investigation comes amid claims by a close associate, Mr. Ade, who believes the killing was linked to the ongoing divorce proceedings. Ade shared that Chinedu had been killed shortly after his estranged wife called him to say she was coming over to collect their children. According to Ade, Chinedu had handed over the children to Busisiwe, only for armed men to storm the house moments later and shoot him dead.

Reports suggest that Busisiwe had significant control over Chinedu’s finances and assets, as everything the deceased owned had been bought in her name. Chinedu, allegedly unable to open a bank account due to his lack of a residential permit, had entrusted her with his financial matters.

Adding a layer of mystery to the case, Ade claimed that a friend of Busisiwe had contacted him, revealing that the estranged wife had refused to return Chinedu’s body to his family, fearing they might perform spiritual rites on the corpse. Ade, in his distress, has called on the Nigerian embassy to intervene and urged Busisiwe to return the body to avoid any potential spiritual repercussions.

NUSA condemned the act of violence, urging South African authorities to bring the perpetrators to justice and calling on the Nigerian community in South Africa to remain vigilant and united during this difficult time.

Done! Always get your residence permit first....those people are users. They will not let you get the papers and take over everything you ever worked for!
