At least four individuals have been detained by the Ogun State Police Command on suspicion of stealing a gas cylinder and a motorbike from the Odeda and Ajuwon Communities.

It was gathered on Wednesday that police operatives from the Ajuwon and Odeda divisions arrested three individuals on Tuesday in connection with a series of theft and assault incidents.

The suspects identified as Joseph Ogu and Sunday Jeremiah were apprehended for alleged theft, while Isikilu Azeez and Faruq Azeez were arrested for allegedly assaulting local security operatives who were trying to apprehend a fleeing suspect, known only as Lati, in the Iyana-Efon area of Odeda.

The Command spokesperson Omolola Odutola, while addressing the Ajuwon incident, explained that Adebiyi Philip, a commercial biker, had parked his Bajaj Boxer motorcycle with registration number TRE 228 WZ at Alapara Junction while looking for a passenger.

When he returned to the spot, Adebiyi discovered that his motorcycle was missing.

After a thorough search, the motorbike was found with Ogu, a 33-year-old man, who was caught tampering with its key and security system.

Odutola stated that the suspect was promptly apprehended and detained, while the motorcycle was recovered from the scene.

She also mentioned that the investigation is ongoing, with further updates to be provided.

A related incident occurred in Iyana-Efon Kila, within the Odeda Local Government Area, where Dele Sosanya, a member of the Nigeria Hunter and Safety Group, reported that a suspect identified as Lati had stolen kolanut seeds from his farm on December 19 and 22. Sosanya explained that when he confronted the suspect, Lati fled the community.

On Christmas Eve at 10:15 am, police spotted the suspect again. As authorities attempted to arrest him, he allegedly turned violent.

According to Odutola, during the scuffle, two accomplices, Isikilu Azeez and Faruq Azeez, attacked security officer Segun Owolabi with a machete, leaving him severely injured.

A patrol team arrived, arresting Isikilu and Faruq, while the primary suspect, Lati, escaped from the community.

She said, “Efforts are ongoing to apprehend Lati, who managed to flee. The case is under investigation by the DCB, and the suspects remain in custody.”

In another development within the Odeda Division, Odutola revealed that a 35-year-old man, identified as Jeremiah, was handed over to the police by the Ogun State Community, Social Orientation, and Safety Corps after being caught with a stolen gas cylinder.

“The cylinder was taken from Ijemo Secondary School in Odeda. Following the arrest, detectives were dispatched to the school, confirming that the cylinder had indeed been stolen from the school store.

“The school principal has been informed, and Jeremiah is currently in custody while we investigate further. All cases are under active investigation, and we are working to bring the perpetrators to justice,”
Odutola added.
