Five kidnapped worshipers have been rescued by the Delta State Police Command following a raid on a criminal hideout in Ubuluku Forest. The daring operation also led to the recovery of ₦1.3 million, suspected to be ransom money.
The victims, members of Elyon Paradise Ministry in Ogwashi-Uku, were abducted during a night vigil at their church. During the attack, the pastor was shot and remains in critical condition at the hospital.
In response, the Commissioner of Police, Olufemi Abaniwonda, deployed tactical teams, including the Special Anti-Kidnapping and Cyber Crime Squad, to track down the kidnappers. Working alongside local vigilantes and concerned residents, security operatives stormed the criminals’ hideout. The kidnappers, upon sighting the officers, opened fire but eventually abandoned their hostages and fled into the forest.
SP Bright Edafe, the Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed that all five victims were rescued unharmed and reunited with their families. Security operatives also recovered 13 expended cartridges from the scene.
Edafe assured the public that efforts to track down the fleeing suspects are ongoing. Commissioner Abaniwonda praised the bravery of the officers involved and acknowledged the support of the Ubuluku community in the successful rescue mission.
