A Nigerian man who returned to the country after 23 years abroad to reclaim property he had been sending money for was allegedly detained against his will by his own family.

Sources reveal that the man, whose identity remains undisclosed, arrived with expectations of taking possession of the property he had financed over the years. However, his family members reportedly resisted his claim and instead took him to an Alfa (Islamic cleric), where he was allegedly held captive.

Details surrounding the incident remain unclear, but reports suggest that the victim was subjected to confinement under spiritual pretexts, preventing him from asserting ownership of the property.

The case has sparked concerns over property fraud involving family members of Nigerians in the diaspora, with many calling for stricter legal safeguards for those investing in assets back home.

Authorities have yet to comment on the matter, but efforts are reportedly underway to secure the man’s release and investigate the circumstances surrounding his detention.

This has been happy for DECADES in Nigeria.

It’s only now, because of SOCIAL MEDIA, it’s become a topic of discussion in Nigeria

I know a family who returned to Nigeria in the 1970’s and found out that after sending money home to “family” to construct a family home - all they saw on return to their motherland was a POORLY LAID FOUNDATION!
