Nigerian economy needs boost, and this is a missed opportunity to create business for the same people whose interest he fights for. Staying-put abroad and talking bad about bad leadership in Nigeria does not foster the much needed change in the country. Come home, organize revolution - using his hgh integrity, to drive his message into the hearts of the leaders.

Mr. President kudos for hitting back at chinue Achebe. He is becoming arrogant and insensible. If he feel dat Nigeria is too corupt and spoilt why did stay back in Nigeria to help rebuild dis country. People dat are suffering day n night to see dat dis country is still intact called u to honour wit award, d best he could do is to collect d award so these people could be encourage to do more, but rather he is speaking Grammar. Let him (Achebe) go to hell. Witout hin nigeria will forge ahead.

We love Achebe, but rejecting the award to honor his contributions to literacy does not make any sense. I would think, the smartest thing would be use the opportunity to pass on his message of disillusionment of the political trend in Nigeria. You cannot affect a change by side-talking, sitting on the fence and not channeling the appropraite viewpoint to the right quaters, rigth time and right place. The world, and infact the deaf naija politicians would have heard his message if he accepted the award, organized reception party and mounted a pulpit to talk/express about his feeling regarding the present and past Nigerian leaders, and the sufferings of the people. As poor and ailing as our economy, a reception party in his honor would have generated millions of naira for our country. Did he think about the economic aspects of the award - not for him (because we know he is wealthy), but for businesses in Nigeria and beyond? An Igbo saying goes like this, "one does not add pepper to an aqueous solution made for curing an ailing eye".

This is a pointless comment. Him not accepting the honor has sent a louder message than if he did. Having said that, he already received 2 when he thought Nigeria was young and will soon turn around but at 51 nothing has changed. He's now firmly saying NO until the bad government is fixed. By the way the honor isn't giving to you. so what's your problem?

WHAOOOOO!!! THIS IS REALLY UNBELIEVABLE!
electoral reform progress?
is that regular 3 square meal for the masses?
is that job for the young people?
is that solution for boko hara?
is that the sanity among the police force?
is that good roads and good health service for Nigerians?
surely that is the reason why all your children are in foreign university?
that is the reasons for your annual medical check up abroad
because you are in your comfort zone mr president, do you care about us?
pa Achebe is the voice of the masses !!!

INDEED THE FALCON WILL NEVER HEAR THE FALCONERS
CORRUPT ABSOLUTE POWER CORRUPT ABSOLUTELY!

Rejecting that award makes a plenty sense; plenty plenty plenty sense. SOME PEOPLE SEEM TO THINK THAT JONATHAN IS ON HIS FIRST RUN. MIND YOU GUYS, HE TOOK OVER FROM YAR ADUA. HE HAS BEEN IN THE SYSTEM FOR A LONG TIME SO HE CAN'T CLAIM HE DOESN'T KNOW THE ROPES. He was a state governor and so he has no excuses when it comes to turning things around. Well, he can't come out and tell you, 'i paid for this office of presidency with corruption cause your system is corrupt.' He can't tell you that.

I THINK JONATHAN JUST WANTS TO CHOP AND GO. Your senators and governors want to all chop and go.

Job creation = 0.
Security = 0;
Anti-Corruption = 0;

Who dares to vilify Achebe for rejecting some plaques and objects of art with no significance? Who dares? Do you see your politicians turning down awards? Do you see your average Nigerian doing that? Who was that that compared Achebe with other humans? You don't do that. Achebe is Chinua and there is no other. You want to reduce Achebe to the level of a thug in power deluding in self-grandeur? Put 10 Nigerians together, give them  a wood carver and some wood. Let them make some carvings with the seemliness of class, let them go to your states Government houses, and your state Governors will definitely give them at least a million. Your puppet of an NTA will cover it and your populace will stare in their lethargy.

I think such persons should dig up 'a man of the people'. After going through it, come back and tell me this man is not consistent. Oh, I get it: thee center of morality and patriotism has  shifted farther from the people nearer to the individual. Achebe's hasn't and so he is out of congruence. I wish I could speak Ibo; 'I for wire some people with insults.'

ACHEBE IS RIGHT. NOTHING HAS CHANGED.

Who dares to compare Achebe with the average Nigerian? Who is that? What is his father's name? Are you demented? Achebe is grand. Let him be grand. The bloody award/conferment coming from a rogue-like government is not worth a page from any of Achebe's un-published works.
