Police in Oyo State have vowed to arrest two wanted leaders of the National Union of Road Transport Workers in the state, Alhaji Lateef Akinsola (aka Tokyo) and Alhaji Mukaila Lamidi (aka Auxiliary), over the crisis that led to loss of lives in the state last year.
Tokyo and Auxiliary were declared wanted by the police last year following intra-union conflicts leading to killings and destruction of property.
The state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Tambari Mohammed, gave the assurance on Monday after the maiden bi-monthly meeting of heads of security agencies in the state at the Eleyele, Ibadan Headquarters of the Oyo State Police Command.
The CP said, “The state government is finding lasting solution to the crisis within the transport union in the state. As far as we are concerned, we are looking for them (Tokyo and Auxiliary). We are going to arrest them.”
Mohammed explained that the rationale behind the meeting was to strategise in order to boost security in the state. This, he said, would be achieved through sharing of information on security issues.
in the state.
The CP said that the peace being enjoyed in the state could not be compared with that of other neighbouring states and assured that the security agencies would maintain the tempo.
The Commander, NDLEA, Suleiman Jadi, urged the people of the state to be security conscious. He said, “The safety of any environment cannot be solely left in the hands of the security agencies but should be seen as a collective and joint efforts between the security officials and the residents of the state.”
