The luck baby was delivered at exactly 3:50 a.m. on Friday, January 1, 2010. Mother of the baby, Mrs. Kehinde Sherifdeen, had laboured for two weeks before the baby was finally delivered.
The lucky girl, who is the second baby of Mr. and Mrs. Sherifdeen, weighed 3kg at birth.
Unlike past years, when many children were delivered on January 1, baby Kehinde Sherifdeen was the only one delivered on the first day of this year in Osun State, according to the top officials of the state hospital.
Presenting the New Year's gifts to the girl, the wife of the Osun State Governor and initiator of Women and Children Development Initiative Foundation (WOCDIF), Mrs. Omolola Oyinlola, noted that since the inception of the Oyinlola-led administration in the state, females have been the babies of the year, noting that "this signifies peace and this is why we have peace which, I pray, will never elude us in Osun State."
Mrs. Omolola urged the parents of the lucky child to take proper care of her and invest in her education, describing children as the revolving reservoir from which the nation draws its manpower.
The wife of the governor who also presented gifts to children at the children's ward, State Hospital, Asubiaro, Osogbo enjoined nursing mothers to immunize their children and give them exclusive Bosom feeding for the first six months, saying, "It will make their brains to be very sharp."
The WOCDIF Initiator, who prayed extensively for the new baby, advised the youth not to indulge in segxwal activities if they were not ready to cater for children.
Responding, the father of the baby girl, Sherifdeen, commended the wife of the governor for her kind gesture, praying for God's guidance in all her undertakings.
