A total of N180billion has been approved by the federal government for the 36 states to procure grains for distribution to their residents.

Each state is expected to get N5billion to procure the grains to mitigate the effect of the subsidy removal policy in their respective states.

Governor of Borno State, Babagana Zulum, made the disclosure while speaking on the outcome of the National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, Thursday.

He said the development was part of measures to bring temporary solutions to the high cost of living caused by the subsidy removal as government continues to work on more enduring programmes.

According to him, the states are to purchase sundry items, including 100,000 bags of rice, maize and beans, among others.

Zulum revealed that each state is to receive five trucks of rice.
