In a devastating turn of events, three young lives were lost in a fatal motor accident along the Jahun/Kiyawa road in Jigawa State. The incident, which occurred on the 15th of March, has cast a pall over the community, particularly the Government Girls Secondary School, Kaugama.

According to the official statement from the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam, the accident involved a vehicle, identified as a Sharon Galaxy with registration number TRN 498 ZY. The vehicle, driven by Rabi’u Abdullahi, aged 50, was ferrying students from GGSS Kaugama to their hometown of Gwaram local government for the vacation period.

Eyewitnesses reported that tragedy struck when a tire on the vehicle burst near Kadirawa village, causing the driver to lose control. The vehicle subsequently somersaulted, resulting in serious injuries to several occupants, including the driver and fourteen students.

Medical assistance was swiftly sought, with the injured rushed to Jahun General Hospital for treatment. While eight students were treated and discharged, the severity of injuries sustained by the driver and six others necessitated their referral to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Birnin Kudu for further medical attention.

Despite the efforts of medical personnel, the grim toll of the accident became apparent. Three students succumbed to their injuries, confirmed by medical authorities. The bodies of the deceased were released to their grieving families for burial rites.

Preliminary investigations by authorities point to overloading and worn-out tires as potential factors contributing to the tragic accident. As the community mourns the loss of these promising young individuals, questions are being raised about the safety standards of transportation services, especially concerning the welfare of students during travel.

This heartbreaking incident serves as a poignant reminder of the need for stringent adherence to safety protocols and regular maintenance checks to prevent similar tragedies in the future. The Government Girls Secondary School, Kaugama, and the wider Jigawa community are left grappling with the profound loss, as they come together to support the affected families during this difficult time.
