The Ebonyi State Police Command has reported a successful raid on a gunmen's hideout in the state, resulting in the neutralization of three suspects and the recovery of significant ammunition.
According to a statement released by the Command’s Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Joshua Ukandu, the operation took place on March 21 in a forest within the Omini community, Izzi Local Government Area (LGA) of the State.
Ukandu disclosed that the joint operation, conducted in collaboration with other security agencies, led to the arrest of five suspects during the operation.
During the raid, law enforcement officers engaged in a gun duel with the gunmen, resulting in the neutralization of three suspects while others managed to flee the scene.
The operation yielded substantial recoveries, including one AK47 rifle, 2,000 rounds of live ammunition, and three vehicles believed to have been used in criminal activities.
Among the vehicles seized were three Sienna Vehicles, allegedly stolen from different individuals and utilized by the criminals in various criminal acts.
Evidence recovered from the hideout suggests that the gang was responsible for recent attacks and the killing of police officers in the state.
Items recovered during the operation included one AK47 rifle with 16 rounds of live ammunition, a bag containing 2,000 rounds of live ammunition, and a Police Warrant Card.
The Commissioner of Police in Ebonyi State, CP Augustina Ogbodo, praised the bravery and dedication of the officers involved in the operation.
CP Ogbodo reassured residents of the state of the Command's unwavering commitment to combating crime and ensuring the safety of lives and property in Ebonyi State.
