In a candid assessment of Nigeria's socioeconomic landscape, former Minister of State for Defence, Musiliu Obanikoro, decried what he termed as a pervasive culture of laziness among many Nigerians, attributing it to the nation's hunger crisis.
Reflecting on his own upbringing, Obanikoro recounted his diverse work experiences, including stints as a labourer, newspaper vendor, and hawker, emphasizing the value of hard work and determination.
Addressing journalists during the 10th Ramadan Lecture organized by the Anwar-ul Islam College, Agege Old Students’ Association (ACAOSA) in Lagos, Obanikoro lamented the prevalent mindset of seeking quick wealth, which he argued was detrimental to national progress.
"The 'get rich overnight' syndrome is killing Nigeria," Obanikoro emphasized, urging a shift in attitudes towards a more industrious and self-reliant approach to life.
The lecture, themed "Economic Insecurity in Nigeria – Islamic Solutions," provided a platform for discussions on viable strategies to address Nigeria's economic challenges, with Obanikoro advocating for a fundamental change in the national mindset to foster economic resilience and prosperity.
