Patrick Ikaba, the Sector Commander of the State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), has verified the fatalities of four individuals in a road accident at Rinji village.

The village is in the Toro Local Government Area of Bauchi State. The incident occurred along the busy Bauchi-Jos Federal Highway.

The Command also stated that it handed over the sum of N1.6 million recovered from accident victims to their immediate family members in line with the guidelines of the Corps.

The Sector Commander said the crash occurred on Saturday, March 23, 2024, adding that three others were seriously injured in the accident which involved eight people and two vehicles.

He explained that only one person was unscathed in the crash, explaining that it took the personnel of the Corps a few minutes to arrive at the scene of the crash to clear it after the rescue operation.

According to him, the auto crash involved a Mercedes Benz car and one commercial Opel Vectra. Three males and a female lost their lives.

He said the money was recovered from the bodies of three of the deceased persons.

Quote
“The Federal Road Safety Corps swung into action and carried out a rescue operation and cleared the crash scene.

“In the process of carrying out the rescue, they recovered a huge sum of money on the bodies of three of the occupants of the vehicles but unfortunately, the amount recovered was found on the dead bodies.

“One of them was carrying the sum of N1,648,500 while the other was carrying N23,500 and the last person was with N8,700 and the money had been released to their relatives after proper identification,"
he said

The Sector Commander also said that other properties apart from the money recovered from the crash had also been released to the next of kin of the deceased.

He, however, advised motorists to always be conscious of traffic rules and regulations while plying the roads.

Speaking with journalists, Aminu Yahaya, one of the relatives of the deceased persons confirmed to have received a total sum of N1,648,500 on Monday from the Command.

He said, “I want to use this opportunity to express our gratitude to the FRSC especially, with their quick response to the crash which led to the recovery of the money and other items before people with bad intentions got there.”

“I collected the money and handed it to the wife of the deceased who has three children – two boys and a baby girl,"
Yahaya added
