In a decisive crackdown on cult-related activities, the Edo State Police Command has apprehended a suspected cultist identified as Endurance Ezeigbe Otansowe, found in possession of a firearm. The arrest, which took place on April 12, 2024, was carried out by officers from the Evbotubu police division, acting on a tip-off concerning cult activities in the area.Chidi Nwabuzor, the spokesperson for the command, revealed details of the operation to journalists in Benin. He explained that the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Evbotubu initiated a stop and search operation after receiving intelligence reports about suspected cultist movements.
"During the meticulous operation, our officers accosted and arrested Mr. Otansowe with a Branil pistol," Nwabuzor stated. He further mentioned that upon interrogation, the suspect confessed to possessing the illegal weapon.
The police are preparing to charge Mr. Otansowe to court as they continue their investigation into the matter. This arrest highlights the ongoing efforts by the Edo State Police Command to stem the tide of cultism and related crimes, ensuring safety and security in the community.
