Tragedy struck the campus of Ambrose Ali University (AAU) in Ekpoma, Edo State, as two students, including a prominent member of the students' union, fell victim to a renewed clash between rival cult groups.
Reports indicate that the students were fatally shot last Friday by unidentified gunmen, sparking fear and unrest within the university community.
The slain students' union official, identified as a 400-level student in the Faculty of Agriculture, met his untimely demise at the Poultry Road extension in Ekpoma, further highlighting the alarming escalation of violence.
The deadly confrontation occurred less than 48 hours after an incident involving a student named Eddy, who was reportedly assaulted and left for dead by individuals accusing him of utilizing "fake bank alerts" for purchases.
Misinterpretation of Eddy's ordeal as an attack by rival cult factions allegedly fueled retaliatory actions, culminating in the tragic loss of two lives.
Confirming the disturbing development, Spokesman for the Edo State Command, SP. Chidi Nwabuzor, acknowledged the killings and revealed that several suspects have been apprehended as investigations continue.
As the university community grapples with grief and heightened security concerns, authorities are working diligently to apprehend those responsible and restore peace within the campus environment.
