The Anambra State Police Command, under the leadership of Commissioner Mr. Nnaghe Itam, has announced the successful arrest of 200 suspected criminals and significant recoveries of illicit weapons in the past two months.
According to Commissioner Itam, the operations led to the recovery of approximately 1,644 rounds of ammunition. The arrests included individuals involved in kidnapping, cult activities, car theft, and petty crimes across the state.
"We have implemented robust operational strategies to ensure a swift response to reported crimes. Within 10 minutes of receiving a report, our response teams are deployed to the scene," Commissioner Itam affirmed during a press briefing.
He credited the success of the operations to collaborative efforts with Governor Chukwuma Soludo's administration, sister security agencies such as the State Security Services, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC). Additionally, local vigilante groups have played a crucial role in supporting police efforts.
"We urge residents of Anambra State to continue providing information that enhances our crime-fighting efforts. We have engaged extensively with traditional rulers, religious leaders, and community stakeholders to foster a safer environment," Commissioner Itam emphasized.
Addressing cultural practices that could lead to social discord, Commissioner Itam called on traditional rulers to review any practices that violate fundamental human rights. He warned against activities such as land grabbing, occult practices, cultism, and any form of violence or infringement on personal liberties.
"Those intending to disrupt the peace in our state should reconsider their actions. The Anambra State Police Command is committed to ensuring that law and order prevail," Commissioner Itam concluded, urging residents to collaborate actively with law enforcement to maintain a secure environment.
