Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Bishop Mathew Hassan Kukah has called on leadership of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to reduce the recent hike in fuel price currently affecting an already high prices of food items, goods and services
Kukah who made this call while speaking during the unveiling of The Progressive Institute (TPI) on Friday in Abuja, expressed concern over the rising cost of living, with emphasis on the hunger crisis facing Nigerians.
Criticizing the state of democracy in Nigeria, the Cleric noted that as of Tuesday, petrol prices had surged to between N855 and N918 per litre, depending on the location, thereby exacerbating economic survival crisis facing the citizens
He said: “We Nigerians are hungry. Find a way of reducing the price of fuel. Unless democracy is anchored on a sound foundation, we will be building on sand. We need to fix the problem with democracy in Nigeria.”
The event was attended by key APC figures, including national chairman Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, Senate President Godswill Akpabio (represented by Deputy Senate President Senator Barau I. Jibrin), Secretary to the Government of the Federation Senator George Akume, Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum and Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma, Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, and various ministers and APC state chairmen.
