In a strategic effort to address Nigeria’s growing food crisis, President Bola Tinubu has directed that each minister receive 1,200 bags of rice to be distributed as palliatives. This initiative is aimed at assisting the elderly, particularly in communities hit hardest by the shortage.
Dr. Dele Alake, the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, announced the measure on Sunday. He explained that the rice allocation is designed to supplement existing food distribution channels managed by state governments and civic organizations.
Dr. Alake emphasized the importance of prioritizing the elderly in this intervention. "This effort aligns with our commitment to support our aged citizens, who often face difficulties accessing welfare services. By reaching out directly to them, we uphold our values of community care and inclusivity," he stated.
The minister noted that this initiative is part of a broader plan. Future aid will extend to other vulnerable groups, including widows, orphans, individuals with disabilities, and students in higher education. The aim is to provide comprehensive support across various segments of society as the government works to alleviate the impact of the food shortage.
