Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume, representing Borno South in the National Assembly, has called for further ministerial changes following President Bola Tinubu’s recent cabinet reshuffle, which saw the dismissal of five ministers. Ndume expressed his support for additional sackings to boost government efficiency and praised the administration’s commitment to economic reforms.
Ndume commended the government’s newly announced de-dollarisation policy, viewing it as a “step in the right direction” toward stabilizing the naira and fostering international trade. He emphasized that reducing dependence on the U.S. dollar would be advantageous for Nigerian businesses trading with countries like China and other non-dollar economies.
The senator encouraged President Tinubu to fully commit to the policy by aligning Nigeria with BRICS nations—Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa. Ndume noted that joining BRICS could offer Nigeria economic alternatives, particularly in transacting without a heavy reliance on the dollar.
In a statement released Saturday, Ndume described the de-dollarisation initiative as vital for national economic resilience. “This policy will reduce the strain on the naira, help our businesses, and support a stronger currency,” he said, adding that full implementation could yield long-term benefits for Nigerian traders and the economy as a whole.
