An emerging armed group known as *Lakurawa* is reportedly gaining traction in Nigeria's Sokoto region, allegedly recruiting local youths with significant financial incentives.
This was revealed on Saturday by Zagazola Makama, a counterterrorism and insurgency expert for the Lake Chad Basin, via a post on his X (formerly Twitter) account.
According to Makama, Lakurawa, composed of individuals from Mali, Chad, Libya, Niger, and Burkina Faso, is responsible for recent violence in Kebbi State, including the killing of 15 people and rustling of over 100 cows in Mera, Augie Local Government Area.
