The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has initiated a thorough investigation into the assault of one of its officers along the Lekki-Epe Expressway in Lagos, which occurred on November 7, 2024.

In a statement released by Olusegun Ogungbemide, the FRSC's Public Education Officer, the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, expressed deep concern over the growing trend of attacks on its personnel during the performance of their duties.

The Corps Marshal has directed an immediate legal process to prosecute the offender and emphasized the importance of the public adhering to lawful means to address grievances.

The incident involved a Toyota Corolla flagged for a seatbelt violation. Upon inspection, the vehicle’s papers were found to have expired in December 2022, leading to its impoundment. While the driver complied, a passenger verbally and physically assaulted the officer, creating a scene and resisting efforts to resolve the issue.

The Divisional Police Officer of Ajah Police Station intervened, leading to the arrest of the passenger and driver for further investigation. The Corps Marshal commended the professionalism of the officers involved and reaffirmed FRSC’s commitment to justice, warning against future assaults on personnel.
