Tragedy struck in Kwanan Mada village, located near Yaba in the Abaji Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), as two brothers, Michael and James Gwatana, lost their lives in a motorcycle accident on Thursday morning.
According to an eyewitness, the incident occurred around 11:34 AM, shortly after the brothers, having just returned from church and a meal at home, set out on a motorcycle journey from Kuka village to Yaba. The rider, Michael, and his younger brother James were involved in a head-on collision with another motorcycle at Kwanan Mada.
The eyewitness reported that James, the younger brother, died instantly from a severe head injury, while Michael, the older brother, was rushed to the hospital in Kwali. Unfortunately, Michael succumbed to his injuries before reaching the medical facility. The rider of the second motorcycle involved in the collision is receiving treatment for unspecified injuries.
The bodies of the two brothers were transported to the Kwali General Hospital morgue for preservation.
A Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) official noted that the incident had not been officially reported to the Corps, explaining that the accident occurred along Yaba Road, a non-highway area, and thus outside their usual jurisdiction for incident reporting.
