Similarly, another gang of kidnappers, on their way to Benin City in Edo State for an alleged kidnap bid were dislodged in Asaba.
State Police Command’s spokesman, Mr. Charles Muka, yesterday, confirmed the two incidents, saying: “On August 22, one Tommien (surname withheld), a female was kidnapped in Warri and the kidnappers released her after collecting N1 million ransom.
“Through the mobile phone number used, the girlfriend to one of the kidnappers was arrested and through her, two other suspects were arrested. The suspects have confessed to the offence and efforts are on to arrest the fleeing members and to recover the ransom the kidnappers had already collected.”
On the gang heading to Benin for kidnapping, Muka said: “On August 26, at 2pm in Asaba, men of operations department intercepted a Mitsubishi bus with some men that engaged them in a gun duel.”
According to him, during the encounter “one of the suspects was gunned down and one arrested with ammunition. The suspect confessed that they were on their way to Benin City for a kidnap operation.”
