tmaxdon at 14-02-2012 10:59 AM (13 years ago) (m) She suffers from secondary amenorrhea, and that may be caused by a lot of factors, like: obesity, exercise excessively and for long periods of time, anxiety or emotional distress, lose a lot of weight suddenly, premature ovarian failure, thyroid dysfunction,etc.. She needs to see an endocrinologist ASAP,and that will figure out what caused the amenorrhea in this case, and of course the right treatment
That is the truth..... Posted: at 14-02-2012 10:59 AM (13 years ago) | Upcoming | |

This medical condition is multi-factorial. Absence of menses in the absence of previous history of mensturation is Primary Amenorrhea not secondary. Secondary is ceasation after onset of menses which usually results from hormonal imbalances. Primary could result from polycystic ovarian syndrome. All she needs do is to see a Gynaecologist and Endocrinologist. @poster this is not possible in developed country where a lady has not achieved menarche at 27 and she keeps mute, even at age 14 it is considered abnormal and treatment is sought. Read the post carefully! I quote: " since ever her life she has not seen her period normally or monthly EXCEPT she take medicine and if don't she can stay year or years without period."So it's secondary amenorrhea because she has seen her period, even if that happened only when she was under treatment!

igbonnanna at 14-02-2012 01:35 PM (13 years ago) (m) She is suffering from primary amenorrhea, that is the absence of menstral cycle in a reproductive age woman. this can be a congenital absence of the uterus, failure of the ovary to receive or maintance egg cells and also delay in pubertal development. there is no production of egg or ovum meaning no menstruation. pregnancy cannot occur. So the medicine she is taking now goes and increasase the level of the ostrogen and progesteron (hormones associated with egg production) in the blood stream. which intend produce some prooly mature eggs which now degenerates.
The probability for her getting pregnant is low. because for a woman to get pregnant, the ovary has to release a mature egg or ovum. this ovum now degenerate after 24 hrs if not fertilise by a sperm which now leads to menstruation. so if she doesn't menstruate it means she might have a problem with her ovary. that is the ovaries are unable to reproduce mature eggs, thus making it difficult for her to get pregnant.know matter how many millions of sperms found in the fallopian tube, from my own point of view the drugs she take may influence the production of premature eggs that cames out as mensis and it doesn't stays for days because the uterus wasn't prepare for it. so the endometrium wasn't fully build up.
Bros, u tried to define/analyse the possible causes as a knowledgeable expert, but u failed to give suggestions for possible solutions? Please highlight, because I know someone who is now in early forties but has d same problem. She saw her menstruation till just up 17th birth year. @bittersweet- Thanks. I have gone further to define primary and secondary. and as you stated she only sees it when she takes medication. so probably she has had the amenorrhea from a primary cause at onset which necessitated her using medication and in d absence of medication she probably wont see it..case closed.
