POLICE in Lagos State have arrested a 24-year-old woman who beat her nine-year-old step-brother to death in a yet-to-be-ascertained circumstance in Ilupeju area of the state.
The suspect, Janet James, had, a few days ago, beaten her step-brother, identified as Saviour, to death, after she accused him of stealing pieces of meat.
The suspect, an indigene of Akwa Ibom State, had reportedly dumped the remains of the deceased at the lounge of a nearby building, to ward off suspicion from people around her residence.
Nigerian Tribune learnt that the suspect was, earlier in the year, arrested by the police at Ilupeju divisional police station, where she was arrested for maltreating the deceased.
The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr. Frank Mba, while speaking with the Nigerian Tribune, said a security man with a defunct insurance company discovered the lifeless body of the boy where it was dumped.
Investigations by the police helped to discover that the deceased had been brought to the station some months back. Nigerian Tribune further gathered that the suspect, after she was arrested, confessed to have beaten the boy to death.
Mba informed the Nigerian Tribune that the suspect would be transferred to the homicide section of the state police command for investigation.
