In a year marked by widespread low scores in the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), Olamide Aderibigbe, a 16-year-old student of Starville International School, Jabi, Abuja, has emerged as one of the exam’s brightest stars with an impressive 336 aggregate score.
Aderibigbe stunned many by scoring 98 in Mathematics, a subject feared by many candidates, along with 86 in Physics, 84 in Economics, and 68 in English Language.
His proud father, Niran Aderibigbe, shared his excitement over his son's performance, stating in an interview with Punch that Olamide hopes to study **Architecture** at either Covenant University or the University of Ibadan.
The young scholar's feat stands out amid what has been widely described as a disappointing performance across the country. According to the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), only 12,414 candidates out of over 1.9 million scored 300 and above, while just 4,756 scored 320 and above.
In contrast, more than 1.5 million candidates scored below 200, the commonly accepted average benchmark in the exam that tests four core subjects, each carrying a maximum of 100 marks for a total of 400.
Reacting to the overall result, Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, said the outcome reflects increased vigilance against exam malpractice, attributing the steep drop in high scores to stricter exam monitoring and improved integrity of the testing process.
Despite the general performance decline, Olamide Aderibigbe’s stellar result has become a beacon of hope and inspiration, proving that with dedication and focus, excellence is still achievable.
