Producer of the award winning block buster, “Ije: The Journey”, Chineze Anyaene has opened up on why she has not produced another movie few years after she produced the film that broke the box office record in Nigeria, making over N59.8 million in six months.

The film featured two star actresses, Genevieve Nnaji and Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde who are regarded by many as industry rivals.

Chineze said, after producing “Ije: The Journey”, she needed to take her time before returning to he trenches again. She told HVP, that apart from being scared of the horrible experience she had after the cinema run of he block buster movie, she went back to the drawing board to improve on the craft. “It’s scary for me to go back on set. But having worked with several people, I have noticed that there is something which a lot of film makers have not done.”

Explaining further , Chineze who studied Theatre Arts at the University of Abuja and film at the New York Film Academy, United States, added that she would be comfortable producing just five films, rather than 100 films in five years.

However, she revealed that she’s working on a new project, which will soon hit the screens. Despite the success “Ije” recorded, Anyaene decried the heights of exploitation in Nigeria, revealing that tax took 20 per cent of the money while the cinemas took half of what remained.
