Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, has adopted a new system of booking traffic offenders rather than impounding their vehicles. The new system which kicked off last Friday Sept. 18th, will have LASTMA issuing tickets to defaulters and allowing them to go with their vehicles but the defaulters will be asked to pay a penalty for the offense within a stipulated time which will be stated on the ticket issued. Failure to pay up will amount to arrest of such defaulter at their homes.
The question now is, how will they know a defaulters true address? After the cut is a list of traffic offenses and their penalties as posted on LASTMA's official website...

The idea of issuing tickets is good. Offenders should be given at least 30 days to pay for the tickets. The amount is too much, it will result into inability to collect, loss of job, increase crime, increase in fake driving permit, violence/clash with enforcement agents, decrease in transportation services, innocent citizens going to jail, jail costs - new facilities and more people going to jail, etc. Make it two thousand naira (N2000) so people would be able to afford it.
