Lil Kesh born Keshinro Ololade is popularly known as the YBNL young star who became popular for his hit track ‘Shoki’ and the ‘Shoki dance’ became internationally acclaimed. He also released hit tracks like ‘Lyrically’ and ‘Efejoku’ which involved YBNL boss, Olamide, who worked on the tracks with him.
With the news of the expiration of the musician’s two years contract with YBNL and the rumours of Lil Kesh starting his own record label with the name of his latest album Y.A.G.I (Young And Getting It), here is why we think Lil Kesh should renew his contract…
Too Soon. If Lil Kesh is truly considering leaving YBNL, this move would be too soon. Even though the musician has released hit singles, he just finally released his first album with the record label and he is still building up his career. At least waiting to make sure he has enough grounds in the musical scene is not a bad idea. Another two years won’t hurt.
His Album Promotion. Y.A.GI (Young And Getting It) has just been released under YBNL, the album is yet to release a musical video which is what YBNL is known for. He needs to wait to see how far the album would fare in the music market and to know how strong is presence would last after the first album.
Still A Novice. Yes, Olamide in 2015 tweeted that he was grooming artistes that can be independent and can stand alone after two years doesn’t mean Lil Kesh has the experience to start a record label on his own. Being a musician is totally different from managing people, so if he really wants to manage other artistes he should learn more and takes things gradually.
Age Factor And Finance. If Lil Kesh is trying to imitate the YBNL boss on his standing alone, Olamide left Coded Tunes when he was 23 to start YBNL but Lil Kesh is 21 and still young to stand on his own. Even though Wizkid started his record label at the age of 22, he had gained so much prominence in the entertainment world with a steady fan base and with works with international acts. Lil Kesh still have to make more money to start a record label and push his music.
YBNL Buzz. Everyone knows Lil Kesh because he is listed under Baddo’s record label coupled with the presence and connection of Olamide in the music industry. This gives the artiste under his management a significant lift in the industry. We don’t know the connections Lil Kesh has garnered with YBNL but he would certainly need more what he has now.
