NAFDAC says the shops were shut during its Pharmaco-Vigilance survey which took it to all the 18 local government areas of the state.
Deputy Co-Coordinator of the Agency in the State, Abdulkarim Razaq who stood in for the substantive Co-coordinator said the chemists were shut as part of its campaign against fake and adulterated drugs. He said the campaign will continue as long as patent drug dealers do not stop in the nefarious act of selling fake drugs.
The coordinator who said the officials were being trained on the use of the “true scan” machine for testing the efficacy or otherwise of drugs, expressed optimism that the machines will aid the campaign against fake drugs in the country.
Razaq announced that the agency will soon commence a public enlightenment programme to educate the people on the dangers of self medication and the issue of drug counterfeiting among others.
He, therefore, advised Nigerians to always seek medical advice and prescription from experts to guard against abuse.
On the allegations that there are adulterated flour in Cross River markets, he said the allegation was baseless as bakers have never complained of such adulteration.
