Petroleum Minister Rilwanu Lukman yesterday denied preventing the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) from probing the missing 90 million litres of petroleum products belonging to the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).

Lukman had announced in Lagos last year that a probe was being conducted by the EFCC into the alleged scam.Responding to questions from State House correspondents yesterday after leading a delegation of Japanese businessmen to Acting President Goodluck Jonathan, Lukman denied involvement adding that his duty as minister was to ensure transparency in the ministry.

He said the matter has been handed over to the appropriate law enforcement agencies and it is left to them to do their jobs.

On how the product got missing, Lukman said NNPC gave the product to a firm for storage but the product got missing.

“It is either they (firm) turn in the products or pay for it. And this is not the way to do things. We then took the matter to EFCC”.
