A six man armed kidnappers have on Thursday night abducted a former Lawmaker, Emeka Ukpe along Kwale-Ughelli Road according to the Leadership Newspaper.
Reports said that the armed men ambushed the ex-Lawmaker between Kwale and Ozoro axis and when he had tried to avoid a pot hole along the road, his Jeep Vehicle with registration number AA 126 XX allegedly stopped and the unsuspecting hoodlums swooped on him at gun point.
They were said to have taken him away in his own vehicle to an unknown destination after they allegedly shot into the air sporadically to scare any suspicion.
Sources said Emeka Ukpe was also a Local Government Chairman and a Lawmaker who represented Ndokwa West constituency at Delta State House of Assembly.
But a family member who is also a member of the state executive council who did not want his name in the print, said the former lawmaker was deceived by his friends to attend Ukwata festival being held in Abbi and on the strength of that, proceeded his vehicle through Kwale road when the unexpected happened.
It was gathered that several attempts had allegedly been made on the life of the ex-lawmaker by suspected assassins especially kidnappers, fortunately he had been very difficult for them to trap.
In a swift reaction, the Police Image Maker in the state, Mr. Andrew Aniamaka confirmed that the ex-lawmaker was taken away by the kidnappers to an unknown destination during nightfall, adding efforts were ongoing to rescue him unhurt. In the early hours of yesterday, a family member who did not want his name in the print, said the kidnappers have established contact with them, demanding for N200 million ransom.
Since the incident, there has been palpable tension and fear of the unknown among highbrow political classes who claimed that kidnapping activities in Delta State had remained on the increase.
