NDLEA added that contrary to the couple’s claim that they turned to hard drug smuggling to enable them pay the twins’ school fees, the couple had valued assets in excess of N50 million, including luxury cars and two luxury houses at Lekki, Lagos.
NDLEA’s Chairman/Chief Executive Officer, Alhaji Ahmadu Giade, said the assets would be impounded by the Federal Government.
He said the couple had used their children to peddle hard drugs under the guise of holiday or visit, adding that the N50m assets were traced to hard drug proceeds.
“We have successfully traced houses and some vehicles belonging to the couple. Given the competence of the team of investigators, we hope to uncover more assets,” Giade said.
Also barring his mind on the case, NDLEA’s Director of Assets and Financial Investigation, Mrs. Victoria Egbase, listed the couple’s assets to a Toyota Matrix car, a Lexus car and Mazda car.
According to her, others are a double three bedroom flat and another house where they operated a supermarket at Lekki, Lagos.
The agency’s Airport Commander, Alhaji Hamza Umar, said that investigation into the case was at an advanced stage, adding that other accomplices would be made to face the wrath of the law.
He said: “The case is under investigation and we have made significant progress. All the people involved shall be brought to book.”
The family of four was to board an Arik flight to London Heathrow airport when they were found with the illicit white powdery substance.
The 46-year-old father, Jimoh Oladega Bashir, was alleged to have connived with his wife, Mulikat Adebukola, in concealing 350 grammes of cocaine each on the diaper of their 6-year-old twins, while the wife also concealed 3.350kg on her bra and under wear which brought the total quantity of cocaine to 4.050kg.
Jimoh said his family was to have been paid 3,000 Pounds for trafficking the cocaine as well as given some quantity of the illegal product.
Umar said the couple would face multiple charges because of the nature of their case, as it is the first family to be nabbed over cocaine trafficking in the country and the first family to also the first to use their twins in smuggling cocaine.
