In a recent development, authorities in Enugu State, South-east Nigeria, have apprehended a 22-year-old man identified as Musa Abdullahi for his alleged involvement in the theft of a motorcycle.
The suspect's arrest was made following an incident along Agbani Road in Enugu on Sunday, where Abdullahi purportedly posed as a mechanic to deceive a dispatch rider whose motorcycle had broken down.
Daniel Ndukwe, the police spokesperson in Enugu State, unveiled these details in a statement released on Friday evening.
According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Ndukwe, the rider, employed by an undisclosed logistics company, filed a complaint with the police after the motorcycle theft occurred.
Providing insights into the modus operandi of the crime, Mr. Ndukwe outlined that the suspect convinced the rider that he could repair the malfunctioning motorcycle. Abdullahi allegedly persuaded the rider to embark on a trip to purchase a sprocket, purportedly responsible for the breakdown, from a distant market in New Artisan, Enugu.
Upon the rider's return, he discovered that Abdullahi had absconded with the motorcycle, which was later traced to Ogbadigbo Local Government Area in Benue State, North-central Nigeria.
Subsequently, police operatives from the Awkunanaw Police Divisional Headquarters apprehended the suspect, culminating in his arrest at approximately 5:30 p.m. on Sunday.
Reflecting on the incident, DSP Ndukwe cautioned residents and motorists against entrusting strangers with their vehicles or belongings, emphasizing the need for vigilance to prevent falling victim to criminal schemes.
As investigations continue into the motorcycle theft case, authorities reiterate their commitment to upholding public safety and combating criminal activities within Enugu State and beyond.
