In a decisive crackdown on criminal activities within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), the FCT Police Command has apprehended no fewer than 85 suspects across various offences in the nation’s capital.

A statement issued on Sunday by the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, disclosed that the arrests were made following a coordinated raid exercise targeting identified black spots and criminal hideouts in the Durumi and Dei-Dei areas of the FCT.

According to the statement, the suspects were apprehended for a range of offences including the erection of illegal structures and shanties, drug trafficking, and the production of counterfeit currencies.

Recovered items from the operation included paper and coin counterfeit currencies, both domestic and foreign, as well as light weapons, eight motorcycles, seven generators, electronic gadgets, and numerous ATM cards suspected to be stolen from victims.

Assuring the public of the thoroughness of the investigation, the PPRO stated that all suspects would undergo screening, with those found culpable being profiled and subsequently arraigned in court.

Furthermore, the illegal wooden structures erected by the criminals were dismantled and set ablaze as part of the enforcement action.

In a commitment to bolstering security and ensuring the safety of residents, Commissioner of Police FCT, CP Benneth C. Igweh, psc, mni, emphasized his determination to rid the FCT of criminal elements, underscoring the importance of ongoing efforts to maintain law and order in the nation's capital.
