In a recent development, operatives from the Obowo Divisional Headquarters in Imo State have apprehended Mr. Ibe Obasi, a 38-year-old guest house owner, on allegations of fatally assaulting a 25-year-old man named Ebuka Udemba, a native of Umuokpa in Obowo LGA.
Initial investigations suggest that Udemba was accused of stealing a customer's phone. Subsequently, Obasi, accompanied by two other individuals who are currently at large, purportedly subjected Udemba to torture and confined him inside the generator room of the guest house, where he tragically suffocated to death.
The prompt action by law enforcement led to the arrest of Obasi, who has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Owerri for further investigation and consolidation of ongoing inquiries.
Confirming the arrest, ASP Henry Okoye, the spokesperson of the command, stated that Obasi has provided valuable information that will aid in the apprehension of all suspects associated with the case.
Meanwhile, CP Aboki Danjuma, the Commissioner of Police for Imo State, has directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of SCID to conduct a thorough investigation to ascertain the circumstances surrounding Udemba's death. The Commissioner emphasized the importance of bringing all involved suspects to justice.
While expressing condolences to the families, friends, and loved ones of the victim, CP Danjuma vehemently condemned the heinous act. He urged the residents of Obowo LGA, especially those in Umulogho, to refrain from taking matters into their own hands. Assuring the public, he stated that the command is fully engaged in the situation and is committed to ensuring that all suspects connected to the murder case are apprehended and held accountable before the law.
