In a significant development in the fight against criminality, the Operation Zenda Joint Task Force in Benue State has apprehended a 37-year-old woman for the alleged illegal possession of 317 live ammunition.

Commander of Operation Zenda, SP Felix Nomiyugh, confirmed the arrest on Tuesday in Makurdi, the state capital. The suspect was apprehended at Ayati Junction in Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State.

According to SP Nomiyugh, the woman is believed to be associated with a notorious bandit operating within the local government area, adding a new dimension to concerns over criminal activities in the region.

The task force, during the arrest, successfully recovered a cache of live ammunition from the suspect. Among the seized items were 200 live rounds of General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG) ammunition and 117 rounds of 7.6mm ammunition.

The arrest underscores the ongoing efforts by security agencies to clamp down on criminal elements and curb the proliferation of illegal arms in Benue State. It also serves as a stark reminder of the challenges posed by banditry and related criminal activities in the region.

As investigations into the matter continue, authorities are expected to shed more light on the circumstances surrounding the suspect's possession of such a significant quantity of live ammunition and her alleged connection to criminal elements operating in the area.
