A 39-year-old Nigerian woman has been apprehended by the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department's (JMPD) Tactical Response Unit on Sunday, April 7, 2024, in the Brackendowns area, Alberton, for her alleged involvement in drug distribution activities. Superintendent Xolani Fihla, spokesperson for the JMPD, announced the arrest and disclosed that efforts are now being intensified to locate and arrest the suspect's husband in connection to the same case.

The operation that led to the woman's arrest was initiated following intelligence reports received by the police about a drug distribution network operating within Eldorado Park. A detailed description of a vehicle purportedly used in the drug distribution was provided to the officers, which subsequently led them to a residence in Brackendowns, Alberton.

Upon surveillance of the identified residence, JMPD officers spotted a white Mercedes-Benz, consistent with the vehicle description they had on record, departing the property. The vehicle, driven by the female suspect, was stopped, and a search was conducted, leading to the discovery of the narcotic substance known as Kat.

The suspect reportedly informed the officers that the vehicle was owned by her husband, prompting an immediate search of their home. This search yielded additional narcotics and suggested that the residence might be serving as a laboratory for drug production, with chemicals and drug-making equipment being found on site.

Authorities have confirmed that the narcotics seized in the operation have an estimated street value of around R 700,000.00. The woman, now identified as a Nigerian national, faces charges of drug dealing and possession. She is currently being held at the Brackendowns South African Police Service (SAPS) station, awaiting further legal proceedings.

Superintendent Fihla stated, "The JMPD is dedicated to the safety and security of our communities. We will continue our efforts to root out drug-related crimes and urge the public to assist by reporting suspicious activities."

The ongoing investigation seeks to capture the primary suspect, the woman's husband, who remains at large. The JMPD emphasizes the importance of community cooperation in combating the menace of drug trafficking and ensuring the safety of neighborhoods across Johannesburg.
