In a disturbing incident at Hotel Royal Damgrete in Umuahia, Abia State, a manager was reportedly beaten to death by members of the Nigerian Army. The violent act occurred after a Nigerian Air Force cadet drowned in the hotel's swimming pool earlier in the week.
The deceased manager, identified as Achimugu James Etubi, was allegedly subjected to fatal beatings by soldiers within a military barracks on Friday morning. This tragic event follows the drowning of a NAF Tarmac Four cadet, known only as CDT Chidiebere, which took place at the same hotel on Tuesday.
Sources close to the situation revealed that in response to the drowning, Major Inuwa, who was leading the investigation into the cadet's death, dispatched soldiers to the hotel. Four hotel staff members, including Etubi, were invited to the military barracks for interrogation regarding the circumstances surrounding the drowning. It was during this interrogation that Etubi reportedly lost his life due to the severity of the beatings inflicted by the army personnel.
The incident has sparked outrage and raised serious concerns about the conduct of military personnel in civilian matters. The exact circumstances that led to the fatal beating are still under investigation, and details continue to emerge as the community seeks justice for the loss of Achimugu James Etubi.
