
In a swift operation along the Benin-Asaba Expressway on May 17, police operatives from "B" Division, Asaba, Delta State, apprehended a 32-year-old armed robbery suspect, Emeka Okorie. The suspect was found in possession of a stolen truck and a locally made cut-to-size gun, while two accomplices managed to evade capture.
Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed the incident in a statement released to the press in Warri.
According to SP Edafe, the arrest followed a tip-off received by the police, leading to the interception of a diesel truck bearing registration number ENU 564 ZU. The truck, loaded with 840 crates of Life beer, was reported stolen from Umuasea Bus Stop in Udi Local Government Area, Enugu State. The driver, Collins Ogbodo Ude, employed by Lumie Haulage Breweries Company, Enugu, was detained for questioning.
The stolen truck was traced to Delta State through technologically driven intelligence, where it was intercepted by operatives of the "B" Division. Emeka Okorie, a 32-year-old from Imo State, was apprehended at the scene, while his two associates managed to flee.
During a search of the vehicle, law enforcement officers discovered a cut-to-size locally made double barrel pistol and four live cartridges concealed inside.
SP Edafe emphasized that efforts to track down and apprehend the fleeing suspects are ongoing, underscoring the commitment of the police to combat crime and ensure the safety of residents along the Benin-Asaba Expressway.
