This significant drug seizure marks another milestone in the ongoing battle against drug trafficking by Customs officials in the state.
Speaking at a press briefing held at the command headquarters in Ibadan yesterday, the Area Controller, Ben Oramalugo, revealed that the command achieved a revenue generation of N6,335,842,600.28k for the month of May 2024 alone.
He further disclosed that cumulatively, from January to May 2024, the command has generated a total revenue of N30,664,247,939.15k. This represents a 5.2% increase compared to the N29,154,853,722.73k generated during the same period in 2023, despite prevailing economic challenges.
In addition to the cannabis seizure, Oramalugo highlighted other significant seizures including foreign parboiled rice, petroleum motor spirit (PMS), pieces of used tyres, and a used Mercedes truck.
“As we navigate the complexities of the current economic landscape, all stakeholders can rest assured that the Oyo/Osun Area Command remains steadfast in its commitment to fulfilling its mandate under the Nigeria Customs Service Act,” Oramalugo assured.
He emphasized the command's dedication to adapting and innovating its operations to ensure effectiveness in addressing evolving challenges.
The successful drug seizure and robust revenue generation underscore the Customs' pivotal role in safeguarding the nation's borders and combating illicit activities.
The NDLEA has commenced investigation into the seized cannabis, while the Customs continues to maintain vigilance to prevent illegal activities across the region.
