Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have apprehended a Beninese national, Orobi Adoubi Amen, for attempting to smuggle a substantial amount of illegal drugs through Lagos' Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA).
According to a statement from Femi Babafemi, the NDLEA’s Director of Media & Advocacy, Amen, a 30-year-old male, was intercepted on Thursday, July 18, 2024, while attempting to board an Air Peace flight to Accra, Ghana, with a connecting flight to Dubai, UAE on Emirates Airline.
The suspect, traveling with a bag filled with female native dresses, was found to be concealing eight parcels of illicit drugs, identified as Lo¥d, totaling 2.10 kilograms. The drugs were hidden within the garments.
Amen reportedly stated that he was paid N600,000 to transport the drugs to Dubai. The agency's swift action prevented the consignment, worth an estimated $1.5 million, from reaching its destination.
The NDLEA continues to intensify its efforts to combat drug trafficking and ensure that such illegal operations are thwarted at all points of entry.
