A farmer in Bassam Galomari village, located in Gubio Local Government Area of Borno State, suffered severe injuries on Friday when he was attacked by herdsmen. The assailants, who were reportedly grazing cattle, assaulted the farmer, severing both of his hands.
The incident unfolded around 1:30 p.m. when the herdsmen entered the farmer’s land. According to counter-terrorism and insurgency expert Zagazola Makama, the confrontation escalated when the farmer attempted to evict the intruders from his property. The herdsmen resisted, and one of them violently attacked the farmer, resulting in the severe injury.
Following the attack, the victim was initially taken to Gubio Hospital before being transferred to Maiduguri Hospital for advanced medical care. The area around Bassam Galomari Village has been declared unsafe, with authorities advising residents to avoid the area until further notice.
Security forces have been instructed to address the situation and work towards resolving the ongoing tensions in the region.
