Six people, including the driver of a commuter vehicle, were killed by gunmen in the early hours of Monday.

It was gathered that the commuter vehicle departed Takum for Wukari around 6 a.m. and was ambushed at a village near Sai in neighboring Benue State.

The chairman of Takum LGA, John Ali, confirmed the incident to newsmen.

According to him, “I arrived in Jalingo yesterday for a meeting, but this morning I received a call about a tragic incident along the Takum-Wukari Highway.

“Five passengers left Takum around 6 a.m., and while approaching a village near Sai in Benue State, gunmen emerged from the forest and opened fire on the moving vehicle.

“The section of the road where the commuters were ambushed is untarred.

“The five passengers and the driver were killed.”

He also said security operatives in the area had initiated patrols to track down the fleeing gunmen.

The state police command has yet to speak on the incident.
