The Nasarawa State Police Command has arrested a woman, Hauwa Sani, along with a two-year-old child, after discovering a cache of dangerous weapons in their possession. The arrest was made by operatives from the Keffi Division, located just 33 kilometers from the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
In a statement issued on Saturday, Nasarawa Police Public Relations Officer Ramhan Nansel revealed that the officers recovered 124 rounds of anti-aircraft ammunition concealed in a gallon of palm oil. The operation took place on Friday when the suspect, a resident of Doro village in Katsina State, was intercepted.
Preliminary investigations indicated that Sani had received the ammunition supply at Rafin Sanyi village in Doma Local Government Area of Nasarawa State. She allegedly concealed the dangerous items in the palm oil container, intending to transport them to Katsina State. However, her plan was thwarted by the police.
The Nasarawa State Commissioner of Police, Umar Shehu Nadada, has ordered that both the suspect and the recovered ammunition be transferred to the Force Intelligence Department at Force Headquarters in Abuja for further investigation.
This arrest highlights the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to curb the trafficking of illegal weapons across Nigeria.
