The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has announced the arrest of Ibeanusi Solomon Nosike, a businessman based in Onitsha, Anambra State, who was found with 68 wraps of cocaine in his system. The arrest took place at the local wing of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Ikeja, Lagos.
According to a statement released by Femi Babafemi, Director of Media and Advocacy at NDLEA Headquarters, the 36-year-old suspect was apprehended in the early hours of Thursday, August 8, 2024, while attempting to board a flight from Lagos to Abuja. The suspect was scheduled to connect to a Qatar Airways flight from the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (NAIA) in Abuja to Vietnam later that morning.
Babafemi revealed that Nosike had been under NDLEA surveillance following intelligence reports. He had traveled to Lagos from his base in Onitsha on August 7 and checked into a hotel where he ingested the 68 wraps of cocaine. The following day, he headed to the airport to catch a 6:30 a.m. flight to Abuja.
NDLEA operatives intercepted Nosike at the airport and placed him under excretion observation, a process that lasted 12 days. During this period, he excreted all 68 cocaine pellets, which weighed a total of 1.282 kilograms.
The NDLEA's successful operation underscores the agency's ongoing efforts to curb drug trafficking and protect the nation from the scourge of illicit substances.
