The Akwa Ibom Police Command has reported a fire incident at the office complex of the Akwa Ibom State Independent Electoral Commission (AKISIEC) located in the Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area.
ASP Timfon John, the Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the situation to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Uyo on Saturday, assuring that the electoral materials intended for the upcoming elections remained unaffected by the blaze.
John stated that the fire was caused by “some hoodlums” who partially ignited the AKISIEC office, but emphasized that essential election materials were intact and that the election process is ongoing.
In response to the incident, the police have heightened security measures at all AKISIEC offices and other key locations throughout the state to ensure a safe electoral environment.
