Ekiti State Governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji, on Tuesday, lamented what he called repeated activities of cultist members and cybercrimes in all the higher institutions in the state.

The Governor, represented by his Special Adviser on Security Matters Brigadier Ebenezer Ogundana, (rtd) said this during a stakeholders’ meeting, organized by the Nigeria Police Strategic forum.

The programme was aimed at training the Schools Protection Squad (SPS) on the security of schools protection in Ekiti State.

The Governor particularly mentioned the state-owned Ekiti State University (EKSU) where cultism and cybercrimes are rampant.

He, however, promised that his government will continue to support the security operatives and ensure their best performance in tackling the menace.

Oyebanji equally charged school administrators in the state to redouble their efforts in curbing the menace, promising that his administration will continue to intensify more open door policy that would guarantee safety of lives and properties in the state.

Earlier in his welcome address at the occasion, the Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, Mr Akinwale Adeniran, described security of lives and property as a joint business of both the government and the people in the society.

The Ekiti State police command boss said the programme which is an initiative and strategic intervention of the Inspector General of Nigeria Police, Mr Kayode Egbetokun is geared towards guaranteeing the security of the students, as well as teachers and ensuring safe environment in all categories of schools in the country.

He explained that the programme which will be flagged off in Niger, Ekiti States and Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory, will put an end to the attacks on schools.

The Ekiti State police command helmsman expressed his delight as Ekiti State is one of the few states selected for the take-off of the programme.
