The Senatorial Candidate of the Action Congress of Nigeria in Ikot Ekppene, Akwa Ibom Mr Joe Ukpong has accused the Peoples Democratic party of rigging the National Assembly election in the state.

Ukpong alleged that electoral materials were hijacked by members of the ruling PDP and that result sheets were not delivered along with other materials.

He lamented that those that were accredited were not allowed to vote at the end of the day, adding that the government wants to go with Professor Maurice Iwu’s way instead of the more transparent Professor Attahiru Jega’s system.

Ukpong who spoke with The Nation on telephone, said that soldiers working  were used in areas like Epin Ekpo to  take over polling stations in order to successfully rig the election.

According to him, agents of other political parties were chased out from polling station while the soldiers were directing the illiterate and aged on the party to vote.

Sources also confirmed that the elections in the state went on peacefully although the turn out was low in some places while it was high in other places.

The source said that it was difficult for some people to vote in some areas because of the inability of some people to find their names in the voters register.

According to the source, the issues were related to the computer printout which meant disenfranchisement for those who could not vote.
